One of my favorite low-key bonding activities is family movie night. It's fun to watch family-appropriate movies with my daughter after a long week of work and stress because the stories are usually a bit less dramatic than my adult favorites. We can unwind and be entertained at the same time.
Family movie night also provides a great way to bond as a family. I know that screen time has gotten a bad rep from parents lately and I totally get that, but it is possible to think outside the box to enjoy quality time as a family. Here are some of my tips for adding a family movie night to your routine.
Create A Family Movie Night Tradition That Will Bring The Family Together!
Start the evening by preparing an easy meal together. Get the kids involved! Homemade pizza, where each person adds their own toppings, is simple - and pizza is very portable, if you choose to enjoy it while you watch a movie together on the couch.
Choose a family-friendly movie that everyone can enjoy. Obviously, adults will not want to watch things aimed at the "baby" crowd, but there are tons of options available that appeal to everyone. Check out the Netflix Kids section for some suggestions. Did you know that Turbo: FAST is the first original Netflix series created for kids? (I love the Netflix original series for adults, like Orange Is The New Black and House Of Cards!)
Create a movie-relevant craft or activity that the whole family can get involved in. For Turbo: FAST, family members can race cars or animal figures around, or paint a picture of a favorite movie scene to display on the fridge. Get creative!
Don't forget to talk about the movie after you've finished watching: favorite scenes, lessons learned, and anything of educational value.
