Danger and I were invited to the screening of Disney's newest animated film, Planes in 3D at Atlantic Station. We enjoyed a night of yogurt, shopping, and child-appropriate entertainment all at one central location. Pretty sweet, right?
I'll try my best to give a thorough review without giving away any spoilers or plot lines.
The new Disney Planes movie was an adorable movie, but I will admit that it followed a predictable plot. Little guy with big dreams struggles to come out ahead of the much more qualified, more believable characters, who (incidentally) plot against him at every turn. But hey - who doesn't love to root for the little guy?
That said, Disney's Planes offers characters that the audience can really cheer for. The movie teaches children some very good lessons, like the importance of being honest, sticking up for others when it is not convenient, and always doing the right thing no matter the consequences.
One of the reasons why I support the Disney brand is because the stories encourage children to be independent thinkers. When things go wrong, as they inevitably do in these films, the characters find a solution - whether the solution is to rely on others for help, or to learn a valuable lesson from a moment of self-reflection. Although Dusty from the Disney Planes movie had to go through a lot, he was certainly an example of perseverance and confidence for children. Not too shabby, Disney.
SYNOPSIS: From above the world of “Cars” comes “Disney’s Planes,” an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure featuring Dusty (voice of Dane Cook), a plane with dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer. But Dusty’s not exactly built for racing—and he happens to be afraid of heights. So he turns to a seasoned naval aviator who helps Dusty qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit. Dusty’s courage is put to the ultimate test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible, giving a spellbound world the inspiration to soar. “Disney’s Planes” takes off in theaters on August 9, 2013.
What upcoming Disney release (or re-release) are you most looking forward to? I know that we will be picking up The Little Mermaid on DVD/Blu Ray combo pack this fall, and in keeping with the tides, the new Finding Dory movie will be in theaters 2015!
We attended an advanced screening of the movie to help with a review. All opinions shared come from my own personal experiences, and were not influenced by any compensation.
