My family and I were fortunate to stay at Disney's Contemporary Resort as part of this year's Disney Social Media Moms Celebration. It was our first time staying on-property at a Walt Disney World Resort, and most certainly will not be our last! Imagine this: Take a drive through the Disney property on your way to check-in to your hotel - your home away from home while you are on vacation. The signs! The Park entrances! The magic is all around. Even better - Take a right at the Magic Kingdom and you've arrived at your destination! Who wouldn't want to be Cinderella's royal neighbor?!
That was just one of the many daydreams that I experienced on our trip to Disney's Contemporary Resort. Read on for the top seven reasons why you should consider staying at the Contemporary Resort.
#1: Disney's Contemporary Resort Room Amenities
The Contemporary Resort offers beautiful and spacious suites that are designed with families in mind. Our suite came equipped with two Queen beds, as well as a sleeper sofa to accommodate larger parties. In the evenings, I was able to sit at the large desk and check out the pictures that I captured during the day on my laptop, while surrounded by other gadgets placed on charge in the many available outlets.
The restroom was designed in a manner that exceeded our family's needs. The toilet was separated from the rest of the bathroom, so that others could easily access the double sinks when needed. I was very impressed with the selection of grapefruit-scented bath products from H2O+ skincare. These products provided an energizing scent to wash away the day's sweat and humidity, and were gentle enough to use on my toddler's delicate skin.
Our room was a standard garden view option, located in a plush green courtyard right by the blue lagoon. While a bit of a hike from the main building - and Monorail station - we were able to enjoy leisurely strolls through gorgeous native plants at sunrise and wander through dimly-lit pathways by the water at night to unwind.
#2: The Contemporary Resort Pool And Recreational Facilities
The Contemporary Resort's pool and beach zones are well-maintained, very clean, and offer a vacation all of their own. Guests can enjoy a friendly game of ping pong while listening to hip music by the family pool. (I heard some Alanis Morissette and Hootie & The Blowfish, among others).
Young children that are unsure of the big pool can enjoy the nearby splash pad. This area offers interactive fountains and jets, and can entertain a small child for hours - just ask little Danger.
My favorite place to relax on property was in one of the hammocks on the beach of the lagoon. I stretched out with my feet facing the water, and enjoyed the light sun on my skin and the gentle breeze that rocked me as Danger tried her hand at sandcastle building nearby.
Other on-site entertainment options include an indoor arcade and shopping. I'll admit - we never did make it over to the arcade, as we spent so much time enjoying the great outdoors of Disney's Contemporary Resort.
#3: Disney's Contemporary Resort On-Site Dining
The Contemporary Resort offers a nice range of on-site dining options, from a quick market pick-up to fine dining. Guests can even enjoy hot meals right in their room with the 24-hour room service.
For a small snack one day, I opted to pick up a child's pizza meal from the Contempo Café, with carrots, grapes, and a chocolate milk. There was more than enough food to share between myself and Danger, who eagerly gobbled up the grapes and carrots as soon as I opened the packages.
#4: Character Experiences At Disney's Contemporary Resort
Contemporary guests can dine with Mickey Mouse, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, and Donald Duck at Chef Mickey's buffet for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Reservations are highly encouraged, as with all Disney character meals.
#5: Nightly Entertainment From Disney's Magic Kingdom Park
The Contemporary Resort offers amazing views of Disney's Magic Kingdom Park. Whether your room overlooks the Magic Kingdom, or you're out for a stroll along the property, chances are that you will observe some of the magical nightly entertainment of the Walt Disney World Resort.
One evening, Danger and I took a few minutes to stop and watch the fireworks from Cinderella's Castle. Colorful fireworks lit up the sky right in front of us, and we did not have to angle to find a good view - the entire outdoor area in front of the Contemporary was prime viewing. The best part? We didn't have to elbow our way through crowds or risk being separated in the dark.
On our way back to our garden room, we caught the Electrical Water Pageant passing through the lagoon. The lively and repetitive music and simple, colorful floats made a terrific nighttime spectacle for the preschool crowd.
#6: Disney Transportation
Guests of the Contemporary Resort are able to enjoy complimentary Disney transportation to the parks and other resorts. The monorail actually makes a stop in the Contemporary Resort, which is highly convenient for laid-back families like mine.
While the complimentary transportation ranges from the monorail to buses and even boat rides, one of the best things about the Contemporary Resort's location was that it was only a short walk to the Magic Kingdom (especially handy for those times where you just don't have the patience or desire to be around large crowds vying for a spot on the monorail).
#7: Disney Magic All Around
The Disney 'magic' is all around, from arrival to departure at the Contemporary Resort. Every detail is planned by Disney to create a comfortable and inviting little bubble for guests to escape to. It's really wonderful that so many things are brought to you - the guest - while staying at the Contemporary Resort.
From nightly entertainment to character interactions to unique experiences, Disney's Contemporary Resort is an amazing destination for family travel. Be sure to check out the Classic Mommy Google+ album for more images from our stay at Disney's Contemporary Resort.
Have you ever stayed on-property at a Walt Disney World Resort? What was your experience?
As an invited guest of the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration, I received deeply discounted tickets, lodging, and other perks. I was not compensated for this post, nor was I expected to write about my experiences. This post includes personal images, as well as images from the Disney press site.
