War Horse in Atlanta

I attended the opening night performance of War Horse at the Fox Theatre, and I was absolutely blown away. No exaggeration here - the show was perhaps the best musical performance that I have ever experienced. Rich with action, a charming storyline, and the most incredible horse puppetry imaginable, every single second of War Horse was simply stunning. The plot was very relatable and although heart-wrenching at times, I was constantly drawn in to the characters and their fascinating dynamic. Who can't relate to having that one person in the family that seems to constantly make poor decisions, or a kind mother that is torn between serving her husband and being generous with her child? It is this type of relatable and honest character development that many of our current movies and television shows fail to create.

The star of the show was most certainly Joey, a horse that seemed more animal than puppet. The intricate design of the horse puppets kept me delightfully fooled throughout the entire performance. I kept forgetting that Joey and Topthorn were truly engineered horses, and became quite infatuated with the idea of having such a beautiful creature of my own one day.

Fair warning: This show is not for young children. There are gun shots and strobe light effects throughout the performance that may frighten the younger audience, as well as some strong language. That said, War Horse is an ideal date night event!

War Horse is a dynamic and captivating performance that you just have to experience to believe. The show runs from September 25 - 30 at the Fox Theatre as part of the Fifth Third Bank Broadway in Atlanta 2012-2013 season.
