Before I became a parent, I thought that my life was complete. I had a wonderful husband, I was on track to finish college and start a new career in public relations, and did not think that I could be any happier. It wasn't until the birth of my daughter that I realized that I had been lacking one thing - the innocent, unconditional love that is shared between parent and child. Of course I love my very handsome and brilliant husband, but the love I have for my little Danger is different.
Last night, as my daughter was deep in sleep and I was watching a marathon of Grey's Anatomy episodes, I had one of those AHA! moments that put everything in perspective. My girl started to have a bad dream, and as she was stirring, she called out, "Mommy! Mama!" As soon as she found my body, she snuggled right up and went back to sleep. This brought on a wave of happiness, tears, and the realization that the love I have for my child is only a fraction of the love that God has for me. Awesome!
I am very attached to some physical objects (my pearl necklace, the teddy bear that I've had since I was a baby, my wedding band) but nothing compares to the type of love that I never knew existed until I was able to feel it with my little girl. As for that unconditional, undying love, I can truly say that it is something that I cannot live without.
I'm participating in a new weekly meme from Melissa at Adventuroo, and this week's assignment was to post one thing we can't live without. I'd love for you to participate, too!
