If you are planning a day trip or road trip that will take you through North Georgia, I highly recommend stopping by the garden for a picnic. It's beautiful. It's peaceful. And best of all? It's free to enjoy. Take a peek at this spectacular rock creation: Read More
What would you choose to stream if you could only watch one hour of a television series each day? That's an easy question for me. I would choose an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. I love to follow along with my favorite characters as they "boldly go where no one has gone before," and yeah, the pop culture ties make it even more appealing: Read More
I recently published an article listing some of my favorite family travel destinations in the American Southeast. My family and I have traveled all over the country (except for the Northeast -- I know, I know, we'll get there one day!) and I've found many wonderful places to explore time and again. If you're looking for a great place to travel to that won't cost a lot of money, provides family-friendly fun and entertainment and is close to home, then I encourage you to click over and check it out. You know that feeling when all of your friends are invited to a party -- everyone except you, of course. I've never been the one left out (every good party needs that one girl that drinks too much, makes inappropriate jokes, and pukes on the patio, right?) but I can only imagine what it feels like. I am experiencing that kind of sadness right now, and it's tough. No matter how much I want to be included in things that I believe I am a perfect fit for - parties, social events, job opportunities - it's not always up to me to make the decisions. 'Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst' -- A good life motto that can apply to many things.
As a parent, I've found this to be an especially important phrase. I mean, what if the kid has a diaper blowout and needs a change of clothes? Or worse - your child gets a scrape on a dirty playground and you need a bandage and antiseptic wipes. You hope these things never happen, but they often do (especially when you find yourself unprepared, right?)
The same is true with family travel. No one wants to have a tire blowout or airport detention, so we take steps to ensure our safety and sanity as we step out to explore this great big world. My family is no stranger to the unexpected when it comes to our family travel adventures, so I thought it would be wise to share some of the ways that we prepare for these little tragedies. Enjoy -- and add your tips below! Read More
My daughter likes to watch movies that feature strong, brave and smart children, so finding great movies that highlight these positive traits and encourage her to be active is high on my list of priorities. Not surprisingly, Danger has taken an interest in spy movies. She can identify with the need to think quickly and move quietly because she's always observing people (much to my dismay for the times that she's spying on me).
Her current Netflix Kids favorites are: Read More
We have enjoyed a small string of perfect Spring days. In Atlanta, these mild days are as elusive as the Kinder surprise eggs at the local farmer's market. (Note to Kinder eggs: I will find you. And I will eat you. Preferably while making a profitable YouTube video of the whole ordeal.)
Last week, my parents and nephew drove down from North Georgia to visit Stone Mountain Park with us for Spring FUN Break. I can agree that we all had a lot of FUN - all caps because, why not?! We saw a live bird show that had Read More
