Every year, I start making Danger's Halloween costume during the summer, and every year, I rush to finish it in time for the big night. After spending what seemed like 40 million hours making Danger's mermaid costume last year, I've more than learned my lesson.
This year, I decided to make the most of Halloween by purchasing a pre-made costume for Danger. I am putting my energy into planning an amazing Halloween party for our friends and neighbors instead.
When my daughter told me that she wanted to be Little Red Riding Hood this year, I got pretty excited. I remembered seeing a cute costume at Kmart, and yes - we bought it last weekend. While it is absolutely adorable in every way, I plan to add a little bit of ribbon and a red gingham-lined basket to make it pop even more. Hey, after getting so accustomed to making costumes from scratch, it's not really that big of a surprise that I am going to do a little tweaking, now is it? :)

Kmart is also offering up a fun Kostume Kreator to make Halloween planning even more fun. WIth this tool, you can customize a costume for every member of the family with the click of a few buttons. The best part - actual product suggestions for making your costume dreams a reality appear right inside the Kostume Kreator!
Check out this adorable costume I designed for myself:
I'll admit - I'm tempted to just throw on some lingerie and animal ears in true "Mean Girls" fashion: Duh, I'm a mouse! :) On second thought, I'd better stick to an actual costume this year. It's already getting so cold!
I thought my husband might like this zombie look from the Kostume Kreator:
We can't wait for The Walking Dead to come back on AMC! (On a side note, have you read the graphic novels the show is based on? They are pretty awesome!)
I also brought my little Danger into the fun, and let her play around on the Kostume Kreator. This is what she came up with:
Tinkerbell. What little girl doesn't like fairies? :) Of course, she tried on all the Disney Princess costumes, butterfly wings, and even a skeleton.
Now all that's left for us to do is plan out the big Halloween party! This should be fun. I've browsed Kmart's Halloween section online, and even walked the aisles in a local store to find some really great decorations to bring this party to life.
And like any good party planner, I've also turned to Pinterest for inspiration. Pinterest has been a big help with food planning. While most of our sweets will come from Kmart's large selection of Halloween candies, it doesn't hurt to check out homemade cupcakes and drink concoctions. I'd say we are off to a great start!
