My kid loves ballet. She is only two and a half years old, but she can pirouette like a seasoned ballerina from the New York City ballet company. Ok, ok, I'll admit - my role as a parent does leave me prone to exaggeration. However, I do believe that my daughter's graceful movements show some promise.
I am quite fond of the years that I spent in ballet lessons as a child. In fact, some of my favorite childhood memories include ballet recitals, gorgeous tutus and spray-painted ballet slippers, and wearing make-up for the first time for my dancing debut.
It's my fondness for ballet that led me to introduce my daughter to the popular cartoon character Angelina Ballerina.
Angelina is a mouse that dances ballet, and is the main character in the cartoon series on the PBS Kids Sprout channel. It is one of her very favorite shows to watch on television (when we're not drilling the alphabet, phonics, and math, of course). My daughter is simply crazy about that sweet ballerina mouse. It is with this in mind that brought me to the Madame Alexander line of Angelina Ballerina dolls.
Madame Alexander offers a nice variety of dolls that can actually be played with, including an Angelina Ballerina line, Fancy Nancy, Pinkalicious, Olivia, and even more. The dolls in the Angelina Ballerina line range from a six-inch doll with a zip-up ballet studio to an enormous 39 inch Dance With Me doll.
For this review and giveaway, I was sent the 18 inch Angelina Ballerina cloth doll. She is such an adorable and well-made doll. The texture of her "skin" is quite soft and beautiful. Angelina comes dressed in her signature pink tutu, which is a mix of satin and organza materials. Her darling ballet slippers and large satin bow are wonderful additions.
The size of this doll is perfect for my toddler. Standing at 18 inches, Angelina is more than half of my daughter's height. She is the perfect size for cuddling, dancing, and making memories with. Older children may be interested in the large 39 inch doll.
As soon as my daughter pulled her out from the box, she decided that Angelina would be one of her new companions. She held onto Angelina's hands and spun around the room, dancing ballet and singing sweet songs.
A few hours later, my daughter got spaghetti sauce all over Angelina's leg. No need to worry, though. We spot-treated her leg, and all is well.
